Microneedling is a medical technique that was first used by physicians in the 1950’s, and became more widely used in the 1990’s, to improve the appearance of scars. Micro-needling uses fine needles to puncture the surface of the skin to cause a controlled injury. The needles create a channel that triggers the body’s own healing system to fill in the wounds with collagen and elastin to repair the skin without scarring. Microneedling is minimally invasive, and can reverse years of sun damage, improve acne scars and stretch marks, hyper-pigmentation, and enhance the overall appearance of aging skin. It can also be used on all parts of the body including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.

Microneedling is a skin-rejuvenating procedure in which tiny needles create punctures in the top layer of skin with the goal of improving overall texture and appearance.
You will notice visible changes from the treatment over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues. Benefits include diminished appearance of fine lines and acne scars, reduced pore size and an overall improvement in texture and tone.
The medical technician will first cleanse the skin and then apply a layer of topical numbing gel to eliminate any discomfort. Once the numbing gel takes effect, the microneedling pen is used to gently press the needles against the skin. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area.
Treatment time depends on the area being treated. In general for the face it takes 20 to 30 minutes for the treatment from start to finish.
Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be bright red as if you had an intense sun burn. The total recovery time depends on the intensity of your treatment. On average, our patients have some redness for 2 to 4 days but in some cases the redness disappears in 24 hours.
Microneedling breaks up pigment mechanically and stimulates the collagen formation without the use of heat. For patients who aren’t ready for laser treatments or who’s skin type disqualifies them from laser applications, microneedling can be an ideal alternative. Depending on the laser treatments you are considering, microneedling generally has less recovery time and is more affordable in general.
The number of sessions you’ll need depends on your goals. For mild to moderate acne scars, you’ll see the most benefit with three to four treatments. Deeper scars and stretch marks may require up to 6 or more treatments. We suggest at least 4 to 6 weeks between treatments when doing a series. Many of our patients have the treatment done every 6 to 12 months for skin resurfacing maintenance and better absorption of anti-aging serums and products.
Prices vary depending on the area to be treated. The cost will be discussed with you prior to treatment at the time of your complimentary consult.
