Answers…

1. How does laser tattoo removal work?

Our laser delivers a burst of energy. Our certified technician selects the appropriate settings for your skin type and your tattoo color. This burst of energy breaks up the ink in your tattoo in the form of small ink particles. These particles are in turn removed by your immune system.

2. How’s your laser different than other tattoo removal lasers out there?
At Aura Laser Skin Care we use the Alex TriVantage® for tattoo removal. The Alex TriVantage® is a Q-Switched laser that builds upon the proven performance of our 755 nm, Q-switched Alexandrite laser with the addition of Q‐switched 1064 nm and 532 nm laser-¬‐ pumped Nd:YAG wavelengths. What this means to you as a patient is the ability to treat multicolor tattoos across a broad range of patient skin types.

3. Does the treatment hurt?
While different people have different levels of pain tolerance, the sensation feels like a snap of a rubber band. The level of pain also depends on the area being treated. In some cases we will apply a numbing cream to the treated area 30 minutes prior to treatment. We can also apply a cooling device to the area during treatment if the need arises.

4. What should I expect after the treatment?
In general you may notice a frosted appearance immediately after your treatment. This is caused by tiny gas bubbles. The frosted appearance fades in about 30 minutes. You will also have some mild redness and swelling over the tattoo area. This will usually resolve over several hours. In rare cases there may be some small blisters or pinpoint bleeding, in which case your tech will apply dressing and gauze. The risk of scarring with our Tri-Vantage® laser is extremely low.

5. What do I do post treatment?
If you experience inflammation of the treated area, it is recommended you apply an ice compress. Discomfort is unusual but if you do experience it, you can take Tylenol but avoid any aspirin or anti- inflammatory medications such as Aleve or Advil. You also cannot remove blisters or scabs and must avoid exposure to the sun and tanning beds over the affected area until it is healed.

6. How many treatments will I need and how long do I wait in between treatments?
The number of treatments varies but on average, 4 treatments are needed at a minimum to remove a tattoo. Treatments are normally spaced 5 to 6 weeks apart.

7. Can I partially remove my tattoo?
Yes. Our laser is very precise and can treat any part of your tattoo. You will need to discuss the area to treat prior to your treatment session.

8. Is laser tattoo removal expensive?
Getting a tattoo at a tattoo parlor is not cheap. Removing a tattoo is just as tedious and is more labor intensive. Furthermore, tattoo removal requires a specialized medical technician using an expensive laser. Having said that, laser tattoo removal is still a relatively affordable treatment to those who need to put their tattoos behind them. At Aura Laser Skin Care we charge per square inch and our prices are the most competitive in the market.
